Rio is the land of FUNK. To Cariocas, the baile funk is more than just music. It’s the favela spirit. It’s a feeling, a language, an economy, and a source of pride. Yet, stigma against funk–as symbolic of criminality– makes live performances an easy target for police who are aggressively pacifying favelas.
